I spent some time reading and praying through John 9 this morning, and the Lord used this passage to challenge my heart as we head into our annual Easter weekend…

First, I can’t get over the blind man’s encounter with Jesus—the hands of our Savior eternally transformed his life.  The community may debate the validity of the miracle, but the blind man’s response is genuine evidence of an gospel-centered change.  John

I don’t know about you, but I’ve always thought of self-control as a matter of do’s and don’ts: If you can do what is right and avoid what is wrong then you have the virtue of self-control. End of story.

Well I stumbled onto a verse the other day that has challenged me to think of self-control in a whole new light. It comes from Proverbs 25:28 and it reads as Continue reading

2010 Spring Saunter 5K/10K

Saunter: (v.) “to walk leisurely and with no apparent aim.” While the Spring Saunter by definition may imply no direction, the cause it supports certainly does: building homes for those who lack adequate shelter. Habitat for Humanity is a program that has been around since 1976 and has built over 350,000 homes, providing adequate shelter for around 1.75 million people.  Habitat has broken ground on over 200 Continue reading

Beginning this week our small groups are launching into a short 3 part study that works through the “Believe” sermon series our pastor is teaching through. You can find all of the resources on the Summit website and we hope they are helpful for you.

The Summit Marriage Conference was a huge hit on Friday and Saturday.  Paul Tripp delivered refreshing, gospel-centered truth to encourage our interpersonal relationships and our relationship with God.  In case you missed it, here’s some of the highlights:

“A marriage of unity, understanding, and love is not rooted in romance, but in worship.”  Thus, romance is not a cause, but a result.

“All marriage problems are heart problems.”

I’m excited to be partnering with the NCBSC in developing training materials for churches that are considering, or already making, the move to the small group model for discipleship of their people. In my study and development time, I have tried to isolate the most common objections pastors and leaders of a local church have to making the jump to groups (in that vein, I’d greatly appreciate your feedback Continue reading

This weekend, I’m teaching a breakout session at Summit’s Nexus Project for students.  (Side note… I’m always surprised how much God teaches me through the preparation process.  In fact, my prayers for the students have been that they would learn at least as much about our Lord as I have in the past week of preparation.)

In the breakout session, we’ll investigate what it means to abide in Christ.  Consider Continue reading

Paul Tripp, who will be speaking at the Summit’s upcoming Marriage Conference, has published a new book which should be hitting stores around the first of May called What Did You Expect? Redeeming the Realities of Marriage. If you are in the Triangle area and have March 12-13 open, you should figure out a way to get over to the Summit and learn from this guy.
