From Eric Chetwood, Summit Church member:
Thursday, May 19th, from 8:00-9:30am at the Summit Church’s Brier Creek Campus in Suite 111. 2335 Presidential Drive, Durham, North Carolina 27703.
If you are a businessman in the RDU area, then you have a lot to be excited about these days. Your backyard has been repeatedly ranked by multiple periodicals as one of the most attractive areas for commerce in the entire United States. RDU has exciting technology, groundbreaking science, and a pipeline of talent from local universities that is second to none. This marketplace is ripe with commercial opportunity and that is very exciting indeed…but what is all of that worth without the gospel?
As businessmen, we have an opportunity to take the good news of Jesus Christ into areas that are far from him, to people who are far from Him. Many of our colleagues and clients are hurting severely because they do not know about the free gift in Jesus that has been offered to them. They are chasing vapors. What if God wanted to redeem the marketplace through us?
Five years ago, a small group of businessmen in the Triangle started getting together on the third Thursday of every month. Their goal was to encourage each other through the challenges and successes of honoring God in their own respective areas of business. They wanted to sharpen each other, speak strength into each other, and spur each other on to believe that the good news of Jesus can transform lives through business.
We chose Proverbs 27:17 as the foundational verse of this group: “Just as iron sharpens iron, so one man sharpens another.” You have probably heard that verse before, but I want to challenge you to think about the imagery for a moment. Being sharpened is not always a comfortable process. It chisels away parts of us that are dull, and sometimes sparks fly…but it is for our good. It makes us more effective as we pursue the purpose for which we were created.
So what is the point of this post? If you are a businessman, I want to invite you to come join us and be sharpened on the third Thursday of every month. All of us face triumphs and challenges in our businesses, and it is helpful to have other businessmen to turn to for gospel-centered wisdom and encouragement.
Our next meeting will be Thursday, May 19th, from 8:00-9:30am at the Summit Church 2335 Presidential Drive, Durham, North Carolina 27703. We will meet in Suite 111, as we do on the third Thursday of every month. We will have coffee at 8:00am and the meeting will start promptly at 8:15am. J.D. Greear, lead pastor at the Summit Church, will be leading our time together. We hope many different churches will be represented. Feel free to bring folks with you – it should be a great investment of time.

I was involved in industry for 25 years as a believer and would love to participate in this. I’ve got an obligation for this Thursday but would love to come to the next meeting when it happens.
