Financial Peace- it’s not too late!0
Posted In Blog
I heard a financial counselor this week giving advice to several engaged couples. Every other piece of his advice to them was just about quoted, word for word, from Dave Ramsey’s Financial Peace University. FPU is that good and it’s that memorable.
We are coming up on the 3rd week of FPU at Brier Creek and Cole Mill. It’s a 13 week course, but it’s not too late to join. The ranks have already swelled and there is a great buzz of anticipation at each location. This is the last week to register.
Still not convinced? Here is Diane Jensen’s (Cole Mill FPU leader) testimony:
Everyone who knows me knows I love Dave Ramsey. There is a really good reason why I say that. My husband and I use to live paycheck to paycheck. We spent basically what we made and felt like we never got ahead. We did the best we could raising our three kids on one salary. We always carried a balance on our credit cards, used our equity line as our emergency fund, and had a car payment. In 2004 we built our “retirement” home that we live in now and started all over with a big new mortgage.
With all of that being said Greg and I read Dave Ramsey’s “Total Money Makeover” book. We started making positive changes with our finances. I found online the class he kept talking- about Financial Peace University. It is a 13 week class that is never boring but many times laugh out loud. He keeps your interest and even people who dislike finances come away enjoying the class. Each week is a different topic that helps you help yourself with your finances.
I would recommend this class to anyone who desires to get out of debt, or who wants to learn how to never get into debt. I only wish I was introduced to Dave Ramsey 30 years ago. One of the lessons I took away from the class, is to use cash for all my expenses i.e. groceries, clothing, eating out etc. When the envelope is empty I am done spending. No longer will I put it on my credit card and have to use my next month’s salary to pay off my old debt. There are even months that there is money leftover and I save it to be able to put towards the principal on my mortgage. We hope to have the mortgage paid off within two years. Hallelujah! We are debt free (except our mortgage) and have been for two and a half years. We are blessed to be able to give to others who are in need.
I have had the honor of either helping or facilitating FPU at the Summit. This spring our class consisted of 41 family units (single or couples). The class as a whole actually paid off $104,000 in debt. This class will challenge you and the way you look at your money. I hope you will join us and learn how to become debt free. Personal finance is 80%behavior and 20% knowledge.
Can you imagine if our whole church was debt free – what we could do for the Lord with our resources?
