The Summit Marriage Conference was a huge hit on Friday and Saturday.  Paul Tripp delivered refreshing, gospel-centered truth to encourage our interpersonal relationships and our relationship with God.  In case you missed it, here’s some of the highlights:

“A marriage of unity, understanding, and love is not rooted in romance, but in worship.”  Thus, romance is not a cause, but a result.

“All marriage problems are heart problems.”

“God is not just after our marriage, He’s after us!”  In other words, God wants our hearts, not just our marriage.

“Marriage, this side of heaven, is always a war between two kingdoms—the kingdom of self versus the kingdom of God.”  The key here is to treasure God above our selfish hearts.  As Tripp explained… everyone seeks treasure, treasure controls our heart, and what controls our heart controls our behavior.  So, “Is your marriage propelled by your treasure or neglected because of your treasures?”

“Our definition of love comes from an event—the cross!”

We must worship God as Creator, Sovereign, and Savior.  If we don’t…
-  We’ll tend to turn moments of ministry to moments of anger.
-  We’ll personalize what isn’t personal.
-  We’ll be adversarial in our response.
-  We’ll settle for quick solutions that don’t get to the heart of the matter.

Along with Dr. Tripp and Paul Tripp Ministries, we want to thank Cynthia Mann and Summit Counseling for their leadership and sacrifice in so many areas to make this conference such a great experience.
