Vision Day for the Soma church plant in Denver Colorado is coming this Sunday, November 14th.  Come to this event if you want to hear more about the vision for planting in that great city.  Vision Day will be held at the North Raleigh Campus at 1:oopm.  You can RSVP for lunch and childcare at www.summitrdu.com/soma.

In the coming weeks, we hope to include more testimonies about the team that is uprooting to move to Denver for the sake of the gospel.  Here is Megan Barley’s story:

Megan Barley is a member of the Summit’s newest church plant,  Soma Church, being planted in Denver, Colorado beginning in January (www.somadenver.org).  She is also married to the church’s lead planter, Bryan.

“I work as a nurse at WakeMed and am currently obtaining another degree at UNC.  While it would be easy to define myself as a nurse or the owner of the cutest chocolate lab ever, I choose to think of myself in two primary ways:  as a wife to my husband, Bryan, and a missionary for Jesus.

I grew up in Greenville, South Carolina and was fortunate to be a part of a church that lived on mission.  I traveled across the country and world, spending summers helping out church planters in various major urban cities.  Little did I know, God was slowly preparing my heart to be a church planting pastor’s wife.

In the beginning of our marriage, Bryan and I began to ask ourselves how God had best suited us as a couple to move and act in accordance with our lives in Christ.  We recognized that we were called to live on mission.  This wasn’t how I always thought, but the Lord was gracious to grow in me a passion for those that do not know Him.

I am a missionary because I am a Christian.  I now recognize that these terms should be synonymous.  Sometimes God calls us to go to our hometown and other times He calls us to move our lives across the globe.  For me, I am called to partner with my husband in planting a church through the Summit in downtown Denver, CO.

Even though I don’t have a seminary degree and work as a nurse, I am a missionary to Denver.  This means that each and every aspect of my life revolves around Christ.  I am excited to set up my life in such a way that everything I do is intentional towards meeting new people, developing meaningful friendships, sharing what Christ has done in my life, and seeing people come to love and follow Jesus.  I am excited to strategically pick out a grocery store and intentionally pick out a dog park.  I cannot wait to see where God opens up a door for me to work so I can not only be a nurse, but also, more importantly, a missionary to my coworkers.

I would love to invite you to learn more about what we are giving our lives to.  So come to Vision Day on Sunday at 1:00pm.  We want to share with you what we are seeing God do in our lives and how you can be a part.”
