2010 Spring Saunter 5K/10K
Saunter: (v.) “to walk leisurely and with no apparent aim.” While the Spring Saunter by definition may imply no direction, the cause it supports certainly does: building homes for those who lack adequate shelter. Habitat for Humanity is a program that has been around since 1976 and has built over 350,000 homes, providing adequate shelter for around 1.75 million people. Habitat has broken ground on over 200 homes in Durham alone since 1985.
The Summit Church has maintained a partnership with Habitat for Humanity for several years now. Our partnership with Habitat is more important than ever with our new emphasis on ministering to the homeless, unwed mothers, high school dropouts, prisoners, foster children and orphans in RDU. Currently, the Summit is part of an effort with two other churches to fund and provide the volunteers for the building of a home for a single mother with three children. This has been a great opportunity to showcase the unity of the Body of Christ to meet the needs of our community physically as well as spiritually.
The goal of the Spring Saunter is not only to display our athletic skills, but to work toward being able to fund the construction of another Habitat home in the near future. All proceeds from the race will go towards this end.
