We are adding a new feature on the Equip blog for the upcoming season, which we’ll call “World Prayer Wednesday.” Each week, our missions team will put together a short prayer guide to help us as small groups and members of a missional church to pray for those around the globe.
One of the great side-effects of prayer is that we actually spend some time taking our focus off ourselves. In prayer, we focus on God, His mission, and the world that He loves. We reconnect with our identity in Christ, our calling, and the huge body of people who identify with Him around the globe. So as you set aside time to pray on Wednesdays this Spring, incorporate this into your time:
LOVE OUR WORLD
Many people want to pray for the nations, but don’t know how. All they know about most countries comes from what they hear on the news. We are going to start highlighting a different country every week at this time to guide you. There may be people from our church in some of these areas, but for security reasons we cannot specify which ones. God is making His name great among the nations and we hope you will experience the joy and honor it is to join Him through prayer!
PRAY FOR LIBYA
“See, I am doing a new thing! Now it springs up; do you not perceive it? I am making a way in the wilderness and streams in the wasteland.” Isaiah 43:19
Population: 6,545,619
Capital: Tripoli
People: Arab 76.4% (Libyan 30.1%, Cyrenaican 27%)
Urbanites: 77.9%
Per capita GDP: $14,479
Religion: Muslim 97%, Christians 2.6%
Evangelism of Libyan nationals is illegal and any Muslim who leaves the faith could face shame, disownment or death. Technically, other faiths are allowed to worship in their homes but they cannot gather in groups larger than 6 people.
- Praise God for how the spiritual climate in Libya has changed significantly! More Libyans are coming to Christ and others are becoming more spiritually hungry. There are not enough Bibles for those seeking them.
- Pray that God would do a new thing in people’s hearts amidst politicaltransition.
- Pray that God would strengthen the few believers in faith, love, and courage to share the gospel.
